Basketball has been part of Moycullen sporting life since the club was founded in 1966. It has come a long way since those early days and now hosts one of the biggest clubs in Ireland withh twenty one teams ranging from U'9 boys and girls to the senior mens and senior ladies teams. The youth section has two hundred and fifty members and has formed the basis from which the club has progressed through the Galway leagues on to the National League and now into the men's Superleague. The club has a strong sense of identity with its home base in Moycullen but also has active links to the vibrant city of Galway where the Superleague team will play its home games in the Sports Centre of the National University. Moycullen have been selected by Basketball Ireland as 'IrishClub of the Year' on two occasions in recognition of is cntribution to the sport in the West

The coaching and development done over the years in the youth section came good with nine of the Senior National Cup winning team under 20. Six of that team are youth Internationals.



                          
France 2009
The Moycullen U'13 Boys team were in France at the end of May for the 'Henri Seux' International FIBA tournament. This was the 11th time the club participated in this great tournament. They played Belgrade (Serbia), Kravavec (Slovenia), Guyana National team Selection, Fresh Air (Belgium), Ettelbrook (Luxembourg) and Sofia (Bulgaria).

Senior National Cup Triumph
Crowds cheered, bonfires blazed and TV cameras rolled as the victorious Moycullen Mens Team returned with the National Senior Cup.In the final Moycullen produced an awsome defensive display, holding opnents Castleisland to a meagre 42 points. Cheered on by our fanatstic supporters, every one of the Moycullen players players rose to the challenge and to the occasion. Cian Nihill was named as MVP on a day when, , teamwork, fitness, team spirt and confidence prevailed for the men from An Gaeltacht.

Connacht Community Games Finals
Well done to U'13 Girls and te U'13 Boys on winning the Galway Community games

Moycullen will represent Galway at the Connacht U'13 Boys and U'13 Girls Connacht Finals on Saturday 18th July . The games will be held in Mountbellew and Ballygar. No details yet. Hopefully we will have lots of support at the finals for our young players

Mass Wildcats are coming

          

Moycullen will host a game between the Mass. Wildcats U'15 team from Boston and a a Moycullen girls selection in Killannin on Thursday 13th August at 11.30am.
Paul O' Brien is coaching the Moycullen selection.

Girls preseason Camp at NUIG

For Girls aged 11-13 and 14-16
Monday 24th August to Thursday 27th August
10am to 2pm except Thursday 27th when the camp runs from noon to 4pm to facilitate 1st year students who have school that morning. The camp will be headed up by Irish u16 Girls Coach Joe Shields.
