U20 National Cup Semi Final
Friday 13th Jan 2012, Parochial Hall , Cork
Moycullen 61 Maree 91
Moycullen got off to a confident start finding the basket early and held a good
lead until the last two minutes of the of the first quarter when a flurry of
baskets from Maree meant they were down 22 to 16.
Maree came out very strong a the start of the second and while Moycullen made
substitutions the teams were very mix matched leaving Moycullen down by 17 at
the end of half time. While it was a hard 3rd and 4th quarter for Moycullen,
this young team faught hard. They produced some fantastic basketball and with
8 of the 10 players finding the basket they never gave up and pushed the game
to the final buzzer.
This team will be together again for the next few years, with only one, Andrew
Brady being over age next year so the future looks bright.
A big thank you to all those who took the time to travel to Cork Friday night
to support the Team.

November
U20 Cup Quarter Final - Moycullen (74) v Neptune (70)
A pulsating game that had everything, and was a great advertisement for Cup
basketball
saw Moycullen defeat Neptune on a scoreline of 74 to 70 in the 1/4 Final of
the U20 National
Cup in Kingfisher on Saturday afternoon. Two very young teams slugged it out
in a nail biting game
that had the crowd thoroughly engaged over it's entire 40 minutes. Moycullen
got off to an
excellent start and were 14 to 3 up after 5 minutes. This poor start was to
prove Neptune's downfall
but to their credit they gradually clawed their way back into the game to eventually
lead by 2 midway through the 4th.
The Moycullen boys could have thrown their hat at it but they dug deep to produce
a fantastic team
effort and through a combination of excellent defensive work their ability to
finish some big shots under pressure combined
with that little bit of good fortune that you need to succeed at this level
they came through in the last minute to record a
momentous win. Overall an outstanding performance by the team and it sets up
an intriguing derby with Maree in the Cup semi final in Mid Janurary.
Well done to all the guys.
