U'9 Boys and Girls Tournament Jointly Hosted by Maree & Moycullen

Moycullen and Maree jointly hosted an U9 boys and girls end of season Blitz on 18th April. It was held in Maree hall to suit our visitors from Glanmire in Cork, being a lot closer for them to travel. It is difficult to get games for under nines so this was a great opportunity to give them game experience.

The day turned out to be a fantastic success with 60+ children divided into 12 teams playing games of two six minute periods cross court. Both Moycullen boys and girls gave great displays of basketball,revelling in the competitive arena, with the boys winning all of their games and the girls winning all of their games against girls teams and losing only one game to the Moycullen boys , while giving the Glanmire boys a serious fright towards the end if the day in a real dogfight and being unlucky to lose by only one point 13:14.

It is great to see Moycullen being represented so strongly at the youngest level and certainly the talent and enthusiasm on display bodes well for the future of the club. This season their were 10 boys and 23 girls in training, the boys trained by Michael Dowd and Dylan Cunningham and the girls trained by Corrado Santocanale and Charlie Hosty.

Mention must be made of the terrific support from parents on the day and the soup, sandwiches, cakes, buns etc produced by the parents group under the leadership of Maureen Cox was highly impressive and appreciated by all. Thank you all from the coaches and players.
