U10 Boys 2011-2012
'Four great performances by U'10 in Limerick
tournament'
The Moycullen U'10 boys had their first games on Friday in Limerick and
did the club proud in all four. They played the Cork teams Neptune and
Demons in their first two games, followed by Limerick Celtics and ended
the day by playing local rivals Titans.
In the first game, Neptune opened the game well with some early scores.
The bigger Neptune team proved difficult for the Moycullen lads to handle.
It was not until late in the first half that Nils Parsons got the first
score for Moycullen. This got the lads going and more scores followed.
A great basket by Mark Regan narrowed the score margin further. Tough
defense by the team in the second half, especially by Daniel Cox, whose
energy on the court really spurred the team on, allowed the lads to finish
the game strong. In their second game against Demons the lads hard training
over the last 2 years really showed offensively. Ryan Greally got the
first score for Moycullen. He was soon followed by scores from Nils, Daniel
and Conor Corcoran. Scores by Demons in the second half put some pressure
on the lads, but Conor stepped up again with another layup, followed by
a great shot by Ryan.
The Moycullen lads kept up the impressive performances in the final two
games to the delight of their supporters. Kevin Walsh opened the scoring
against Limerick with a fastbreak layup. The next time up the court some
quick passing between Conor and Daniel ended with a basket by Eanna Davoran
from the free-throw line. This show of shooting skills continued with
Rhys Plower hitting a shot from the same spot soon after. In the final
game of the day against Titans there were worries that tiredness from
the previous games would affect the Moycullen lads' performance, but if
they were they did not let it show and again started the game off with
pace and energy. Some good passing led to great baskets by Ryan, Conor
and Rhys and another steal by Daniel gave his second fastbreak layup of
the day. Coaches Eoghan Maxwell and James Loughnane could not have asked
for more from the young Moycullen lads who were without the services of
Oran Conneely, Cian Roche and Daniel Hackett.
It is clear that a bright future in basketball is on the horizon for this
team.
